New Moon: The beginning of the waxing phase and of the lunar cycle. When it has officially left the Dark and you can see a sliver of light on the moon.

Waxing: Phase of light from the sun moving towards Full.

The Full Moon then wanes towards the Dark of the Moon.

Waning: Phase of darkness as the suns light fades and turns to shadow across the moon, moving towards Dark/New.

Dark Moon: The moment of complete darkness before the New Moon.
