Kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral, it's usually blue or blue-green, but can also be white, gray, yellow, pink, or black. It has a distinct bladed crystal structure, perfect cleavage along the long axis, and a pearly luster on its surfaces. The black color in a is usually caused by inclusions of other minerals, like graphite or hematite, within the kyanite crystal, essentially "tinting" the stone dark and appearing black.
