Selenite is the transparent, crystallized variety of gypsum, a mineral with the chemical formula (calcium sulfate dihydrate). Formed through evaporative processes, selenite is known for its soft, fibrous, or prismatic crystallization and perfect cleavage. While named after the Greek word for "moon" due to its pale, glowing appearance, its scientific significance includes its role as an abundant mineral found globally and its formation as large crystals in caves, hinting at the presence of past water on other planets. Do note that any contact with water or human sweat can cause the stone to begin to dissolve.
