Tiger Iron is a rock made of multiple minerals, not a single mineral. Its main components are tiger's eye quartz, red jasper, and hematite or magnetite, which create its distinctive layered look. It is a type of banded iron formation (BIF), which are layered sedimentary rocks that formed during ancient Earth history. One theory suggests the layers were formed by the precipitation of iron oxides and silica, perhaps with the help of photosynthetic cyanobacteria.
