Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral, valued for its rose-red color and often forming in bands or stalactites, which occurs in hydrothermal veins or sedimentary deposits. Its scientific importance comes from its use as a manganese ore and its distinct hexagonal crystal system and properties, like its perfect cleavage and variable luster. It forms in hydrothermal environments associated with igneous activity, such as in precious metal veins, or in sedimentary deposits.
